Is the debate about religion basically truth vs. comfort?

I understand both sides. Personally I side more with the atheists, but I understand why Christians are. They want comfort and happiness. They believe a life based on only truth and reason and logic is excruciating and dull. They don't really believe the story of Noah's Ark, the virgin birth, the talking snake, the invisible, Omnipotent, jealous tyrant in the sky who judges our every move and punishes natural thoughts (the tenth commandment). Christians want comfort and security, so they lie to themselves. I, for one, would rather live a life with no intrinsic meaning but use logic and reason and truth than live a life that suspends logic and reason and truth for comfort and security and happiness. I don't mean to offend anyone and you can tell me where I'm wrong.
