Why are there so many dictatorships in Africa/why doesn't North Korea become a democratic republic?

Africa is a complex situation combining history, social and technological issues, and cultural issues. North Koreans are kept so in the dark by their government, they probably think N. Korea is about the size of Russia and they control half the world.
