Is the economy really that bad?

I work part time hauling interstate freight shipments. If the economy is good there is freight to be moved, and vice versa. I can only wonder where the numbers saying the economy is improving are coming from. Freight shipments are down from a couple of years ago.... worse that a year ago,,,, and even fewer than just six months ago.
