Are there any legal ramifications if I take my own justice when the police fail to do so..?

Here it is...This person use to be a friend of mine....When he needed a place to stay I gave it to him while going to school. I left for christmas vacation and came back to find out he got me kicked out of my apartment for drugs, stole and pawned my desert eagle (priced at $1500) and ran. I reported it to multiple police departments and even gave them a chance to pick him up with a time and place before I got involved. This happened a lil over a year ago and i finally found him again. He already has 1 felony and a bench warrant for his arrest besides the crime he commited against me. He's staying with another person who knows all of this about him and yet is still hiding him out. Would I be in the wrong in taking justice when the police, who are suppose to uphold our judicial system, fail to do so..?
